Americana UK Dirty Dozen Q&A with Mason Ashley

Writing well beyond her years, Mason Ashley craft lyrics that tell a timeless story, designs a melody that captures raw emotion, and then sings with an enchanting voice that lulls the listener to another time and place. At just sixteen years old, she is at the start of a blossoming career with a maturity of sound and emotion well beyond her years.

Tell us about yourself and what you do.

I am an almost seventeen year old girl from Magnolia, Texas. I am either writing, singing, playing, listening to, or dancing stupidly to music at all times. I have a passion for traveling and I love exploring new places and meeting new people. I drink way too much coffee and sweet iced tea. I love my family, friends, fans, and my dog, Willow… She is my biggest fan.

How did you start out?

I started playing guitar when I was nine years old. My grandpa was throwing away his old Conn and I just could not let a good guitar go to waste, so I rescued it from the trash and sat on my bedroom floor for endless hours teaching myself chords. My passion for music continued to grow as I started writing songs about life and boys (of course) and eventually turned into something that I know I want to do for the rest of my life.

What is your current release?

On June 30th I released my first EP, Into the Song and I’m planning to go back into the studio very soon.

What is the best part of being a singer/song writer?

The best part of being a singer/songwriter to me is the opportunity to share my stories with anyone that wants to listen. I write the songs for me, inspired by my own emotions and situations, but I also get to send my stories out into the world for others to listen to and relate to their own lives and that is the coolest thing to me.
