The Music Universe – “Into The Song” Review
Mason Ashley may be 16, but she’s as traditional as country gets with new EP.
Its getting harder and harder each day finding traditional country artists, but 16 year old Mason Ashley is proving that the “country” gene is still alive. When I was asked to review her new EP, “Into The Song,” I was afraid I’d get the same thing I always get: pop country with electronic loops, which many of you know I can’t stand, but Ashley brings the country back into country and that’s a great thing in more ways than one!
Writing well beyond her 16 years, the singer/songwriter has combined beautifully crafted lyrics with acoustic instruments and soft percussion. Her enchanting voice draws you in, much like Kacey Musgraves and Mary Chapin Carpenter. The youthfulness of her voice can be heard occasionally throughout the EP’s five songs, but doesn’t make anything you hear irrelevant. She’s way beyond her years and this EP is proof of that.
